Friends of Woods Park Work Parties
Founded in September 2002, Friends of Woods Park (FoWP) is working to enhance stream health and to give people better ways to enjoy the park. Our projects have included: planting thousands of native trees, shrubs, and other flora, controlling invasive plants, implementing and maintaining a planned trail system, including bridges and turnpikes. Check out the website. Work parties are every 4th Saturday we skip July and August, and possibly December and January. To get on the mailing list for Friend of Woods Park.

Preparedness Month
The City of Portland prepares for hazards all year long. As climate change increases the intensity and frequency of extreme weather, flooding, and wildfires – and the effects of the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake – having a plan is critical. But preparedness is also about being ready for routine events that could interrupt our typical way of doing business.

Taking a look back at National Preparedness Month, which is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared for emergencies, we invite you to join us in getting yourself and your household ready!

Governor Tina Kotek also issued a Proclamation recognizing September as Preparedness Month in Oregon.

Portland Fire & Rescue Programs
Portland Fire & Rescue is working to educate homeowners who live in or near natural areas, otherwise referred to as wildfire hazard zones, about how to create defensible spaces and harden their homes against wildfire embers to reduce the risk and save homes.  Reduction of vegetation (fuel) growing in these areas can help prevent wildfires.  This would include removal of Himalayan blackberries, clematis, and ivy growing on trunks of trees, along with weedy trees like holly, and planting fire-resistant native plants.  Learn more by going to the links below and consider signing up for a free home assessment with Portland Fire & Rescue.
